KNOXVILLE, Tenn., Aug 16, 2007 - AquaPalooza, the world's largest on-the-water celebration, was yet again a stunning success. In its second year, the one-of-a-kind maritime bash drew more than 10,000 boats and 30,000 guests worldwide to 120 local events - 43 percent more boats and 42 percent more attendees than the 2006 inaugural event. Coordinated by Sea Ray Boats and its network of worldwide dealers, the nautical fête was held in rivers, lakes, and harbors around the world during the last two weekends in July. Sea Ray dealers as far away as Austria, Egypt and Australia helped organize AquaPalooza events.
Originally created as a Sea Ray owners' event, AquaPalooza quickly grew into a boating spectacle, inviting all boaters and boating enthusiasts to take part, no matter the brand of their boat. "We wanted boaters of all stripes to join the fun and get a closer look at our models and the lifestyle that comes standard with owning a Sea Ray," said Rob Noyes, vice president of marketing for Sea Ray.
Sponsors like GMC®, Boating Magazine, Dynamic Cooking Systems (DCS), National Boat Owners Association (NBOA), Cummins MerCruiser Diesel, Mercury MerCruiser®, Raymarine®, Boater's Choice, and Sea Vision® generously supported the aquatic festivals. The annual summertime gala has gained a reputation as the Super Bowl of boat bashes. "No one throws a party like Sea Ray," said Noyes.
AquaPalooza Signature Event
This year's signature event, hosted by Prince William Marine Sales of Woodbridge, Va., drew thousands of boating enthusiasts to the Potomac River near Washington, D.C. Platinum-album-selling country star Taylor Swift, who grew up boating on Sea Ray boats, headlined the celebration. Participants enjoyed waterslides, volleyball contests, a charity dunk tank, kids' treasure hunt on the beach and a fireworks finale rivaling a Fourth of July exhibition. According to local officials, the number of boats is estimated at 1,200 to 1,300, making AquaPalooza the largest on-water event ever held in the area.
Local AquaPalooza Events
In other parts of the county, Sea Ray dealers regionalized their AquaPalooza events. Parker Boats of Orlando, Fla., held a beach rendezvous on Disappearing Island, a sandbar near Daytona that emerges at low tide. On Lake Washington in Seattle, Wash., Lake Union Sea Ray threw a dancing-on-the-dock party. MarineMax rocked several locations throughout North America, with country jamborees, sunset cruises and much more.
"Our dealers did an outstanding job of coordinating AquaPalooza events in their area. They have made it their goal to unite boaters from coast-to-coast to celebrate the unmatched excitement and luxury of life on the water," said Noyes. "Combine our dealers' love for boating with their ability to throw the best parties on the water, and you have an exciting day. Multiply that excitement by more than 100 locations worldwide, and that's AquaPalooza. It's an experience that has taken summer boating to an all-new level."
