KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Dec. 17, 2012 - Sea Ray, the world's largest manufacturer of superior quality pleasure boats, is pleased to announce it was awarded an Editor's Choice Award from Active Interest Media (AIM) Marine Group during the 2012 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. Specifically, the award was given to the Sea Ray 510 Sundancer for being selected as the Best Domestic Motoryacht 50-60 Feet.
"We are very gratified to receive this award, which recognizes the emphasis Sea Ray places on true innovation, timeless design and consistent excellence," said Rob Parmentier, president of Sea Ray Boats. "This award is a testament to the commitment of our workforce, which continues to strive for class-leading results in everything it does. To receive such an acknowledgement shows that we are able to provide our customers with products that fit their needs and reinforce our brand promise: to optimize the boating experience."
The award was presented to Parmentier during the AIM Marine Group Editor's Choice Awards Gala on Friday, October 26, at the W Hotel in Fort Lauderdale. AIM is the parent company of Power & Motoryacht, Soundings, Yachts International and PassageMaker magazines, among others.
"The Editor's Choice Awards were developed to recognize the best of the best in production and semi-custom yachts," AIM Marine Group publisher Gary DeSanctis said. "It is the only event of its kind that honors these builders on a global perspective."
According to AIM, the awards reflect the renewed vigor, confidence and innovation among builders and manufacturers. "Much of the new product
is intended to reduce barriers to boating and make it safer, more fun and more comfortable," added George Sass Jr., the Marine Group's editorial director and editor in chief of Power & Motoryacht.
The new Sea Ray 510 Sundancer reflects this, with an innovative layout reinforcing the cruising and entertaining lifestyle. The aft cockpit is especially comfortable and welcoming, with an oversized U-shaped lounge that wraps around a table, an available barbecue grill and a sun shade that extends and retracts at the touch of a button to cover the cockpit and prolong its use in hot sun or light rain.
Through the full-width sliding glass doors, the upper "sunroom" is the ideal place for entertaining guests thanks to its panoramic views and thoughtful design. An overhead canopy slides open to reveal a massive electric sunroof extending from the aft bulkhead all the way forward of the helm. The feeling of openness and elegance is unmatched.
The sunroom has a large Ultraleather sofa to port, plus adjustable table for refreshments or relaxing with your feet up. Opposite, an entertainment center with wet bar, refrigerator and available flatscreen TV and DVD player adds convenience when cruising or hosting guests. A doublewide leather bench at the helm swivels to face aft, adding to the sunroom's sociability.
Down a floating, stainless-steel-and-wood staircase, the unique atrium salon provides another area for relaxing and entertaining. This space, lit by oversized hull windows to port and starboard, features an open overhead stretching all the way up to the windshield. The design connects seamlessly with the upper sunroom and helm to create a "two-story great room" feel highlighted by a sofa, bulkhead mirror and second entertainment center.
"These are the [boats] that are keeping this industry alive and vibrant," said Sass.
