Knoxville, Tenn. - The stunning 38 Sundancer embodies a glorious marriage of form and function. This thoroughbred of Sea Ray's Sport Yacht line offers the luxurious accommodations, excellent engineering, and meticulous attention to detail that boaters expect from Sea Ray. Among the highlights of her sculpted exterior is a seamlessly constructed fiberglass arch that features a forward, molded-in hardtop to shade the driver and companion seats and an aft canvas soft top. "That's new to the rest of the industry," says Larry Krestan, Sea Ray's director of sales for sport yachts & yachts. "It's racier looking."
Another smart innovation aboard the 38 Sundancer is the central transom walk-thru that not only looks great but also allows functional use of the space to either side. At 39 feet overall, with a beam of 12'6", this extraordinary vessel is brimming with well-planned details that make the entire yachting experience even more enjoyable.
Life is good at the helm, where the Euro-style swivel bucket seat features a flip-up, thigh-rise bolster, cushioned armrests and a heavy-duty pedestal with slide, swivel and pneumatic vertical adjustments. The captain also has digital remote control of the Clarion® AM/FM stereo with six-disc CD changer, Sirius® satellite receiver and eight speakers.
The aft cockpit is designed to give everyone a great seat, with a generous wraparound settee. A wet bar with Corian® countertop, sink and cooler storage completes the perfect setting for a party. When it's time to make a splash, the large integral/extended swim platform with a heavy-duty stainless steel swim ladder provides easy access to the water.
The 38's elegant interior offers sleeping quarters for six, including a private, forward master stateroom with a full-size island-style berth complete with innerspring mattress and all linens, plus a 15-inch flatscreen TV with DVD. Both the mid-stateroom and salon feature stylishly appointed seating areas that convert to comfortable sleeping berths. Upscale finishes of cherry wood cabinetry with nickel hardware enhance the overall feeling of living the good life.
For those seeking diversions beyond the open sea and sky, the 38 Sundancer is appointed with first-class media accoutrements such as the standard LCD drop-down, 20-inch flatscreen TV with DVD in the salon.
The innovative split head and shower is certain to be a real crowd pleaser. The toilet and sink are located on one side of the entry to the master stateroom while the shower room is on the other. It just makes more sense to configure the facilities for greater convenience.
The 38 Sundancer is smooth and responsive, powered by a standard pair of 370-hp MerCruiser® 8.1 S Digital Throttle and Shift Horizon gas inboards with V-drives for compact installation. Yet another of the 38's smart design features is the electrically actuated engine hatch that lifts the entire aft cockpit out of the way when it's time to service the engines. "It gives you a huge amount of access," explains Krestan.
Thanks to the standard SmartCraft® instrumentation, VesselView gauges at the helm monitor the usual fluid levels, as well as depth and fuel flow. They also compute range, interfacing with an onboard GPS. Optional navigation equipment from Raymarine and Sea Ray Navigator III are available.
